About/FAQ

Welcome to a workshop on existentialism!

In an effort to answer any questions you may have (why else would you have come to a page called “About”?), we’ve constructed this page in the form of a Q & A, or, in other words, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). Hope this gives you a better idea of what Existential Questions is all about.

WHAT IS “EXISTENTIAL QUESTIONS”?

Existential Questions is a look into answers from around the world on critical (and not so critical) questions. We’re talking debates, learning, fun, answers to the
burning questions in life…
Existential Questions is this website/blog (http://existentialquestions.wordpress.com) and a group on Facebook. The existential discussions are open to all, and we welcome everyone.
The basic concept is that anyone can ask a burning questions on pretty much anything on this planet and anyone can share their views.
We have topics, the questions we’re talking about, and we have polls.
Feel free to check out the ongoing discussions, the polls, the Facebook group, and share your thoughts and opinions.

HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

How all great ideas start: in a small group of friends, chatting over a few beers. From chatting about existentialism, this is the next step. Actually, the original plan was to start a group on Facebook about Existential Questions. That done, the next step was to invade the blogosphere. And here we are! (FYI, the leap from a group on Facebook to this site took place only about 5 minutes apart…)
In addition, since starting this blog and the Facebook group, we’ve searched online and on Facebook for similar groups, pages, websites, blogs, projects. What have we found? There’s nothing quite like this online! We could be onto something groupbreaking here… =) Interesting…
(If you know of ANYTHING like this online, let us know…)

WHAT IS YOUR MISSION & PURPOSE?

Being blessed with friends from all walks of life, from all around the globe, Existential Questions has the potential to become a melting pot of ideas and opinions. The purpose is to create a resource, a collection of shared thoughts on questions we ran into during our lifetimes.
This is to be a fun look into the existential thinking of different people around the world.
That the mission. The purpose? To have heated debates, to see how your views compare to other people’s views, to learn about other views on critical issues, to have fun. Pretty simple, huh?

WHAT CAN I DO?

Quite a bit actually! But above all, there are three things you can do that would help a lot:
1. Contribute, join in on the discussions, comment upon other posts. The more people we can get to contribute, the richer the content will become!
2. Let your friends know about this site. Invite them, send them a link, talk to them about it. Someone might become interested…
3. Spread the news about Existential Questions. Share it on Facebook, Digg It!, Add to Del.ici.ous, etc… There are a lot of thinkers out there! Spread the gospel people!

HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?

In a number of ways. You can:
-Join the group on Facebook;
-Use the “Your Two Cents” form;
-Comment on the posts and other people’s opinions;
-Send us email at existential[dot]questions[at]gmail[dot]com

WHAT CAN I DO IF SOMEONE’S OPINION OFFENDS ME?

Deal with it. We know it’s harsh, so allow us to explain:
First, take into account that there will always be atleast one other person who will completely disagree with your point. That’s called a debate.
Second, be civil. Be an adult. If someone attacks your point of view, demonstrate to them why you believe this way.
Third, in an effort to keep this clean and fun, we will review what gets posted here. We don’t allow racist views, personal attacks, personal retribution, abuse or sexism.
Fourth, swallow your pride. No one is better than someone else, regardless of their views. If someone bashes your religion or country, don’t go seeking revenge. Instead, try to make them see it from your point of view. Be respectful, and maybe they’ll return the favor. Maybe.

WHO CAN SHARE THEIR OPINIONS HERE?

Anybody and everybody. Plain and simple. The more the merrier!

I HAVE A QUESTION THAT WOULD BE RIGHT AT HOME ON THIS SITE. HOW DO I GET IT THERE?

You have two ways of achieving this.
One, if you’re a member of the Facebook group, simply add the new topic to the discussion board and it’ll move on from there.
Second, if your Existential experience is limited to the website, use the “Suggestions” page.
There are thousands of possible questions out there. In an effort to keep this whole experiment from blowing up in our faces, we might have to limit when to post new questions.

WHO’S THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE THOSE POSTED ON THE WEBSITE AND THE FACEBOOK GROUP?

At the risk of repeating myself, everyone who has an opinion will get at posting here.
However, there are some restrictions to this.
On the Facebook group, every member can post their opinions. (Only REALLY inappropriate posts will be deleted.)
On the website, the best of the best will be posted. Now, this could really mean anything. Ideally, we’d love to post every post from the Facebook group. That’s what we’re actually striving for.
If you look at the Discussion Boards, you’ll notice that a lot of the postings are replies to earlier posts. We’ll try to figure out a way to do this logically… Have patience little one… =)

I WANT TO WRITE MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ON A PARTICULAR SUBJECT, BUT I DON’T WANT TO GIVE MY REAL NAME. WHAT CAN I DO?

Good question. As there may, actually there WILL be, controversial issues dealt with here at Existential Questions, we don’t want to turn away anyone who wishes to share their opinions. If being granted anonymity would make it easier for you to post, your wish is our command! All you need to do in this case is use the contact form in the post in question, or go to “Your Two Cents” to share your thoughts. If you wish for anonymity, make sure you state that. All we ask is that you tell us where you’re from. Your email address will never be published or sold, because we hate spam as much as you do…
If you write your opinions on the Facebook group, your name will be visible on the group discussion boards.

I WROTE MY OPINIONS ON THE FACEBOOK GROUP’S DISCUSSION BOARD AND NOW IT’S ON THE WEBSITE. I DON’T WANT IT THERE. CAN YOU REMOVE IT?

Of course. We respect your rights on this matter. Just say the word and it’s gone.

WILL YOU PUBLISH MY NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY ON THE WEBSITE WITH MY OPINION?

No. Well, kinda. We’ll never publish your email address. Don’t worry. What we will do is mention who wrote the opinion, by ONLY using your initials.
If you want your full name there, that can be done. If you want to remain anonymous, that can be done.
Do remember that on the Facebook group your name is visible to all members.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR HELP WITH THIS SITE, I.E. ANOTHER ADMIN?

At this given moment, we don’t need any help. We haven’t even lost the new blog smell… If this gets to a point when we need more admins or contributors to the website or the Facebook group, we’ll post the Help Wanted notice…

ARE THERE ANY FEES INVOLVED?

You are kidding, right? Hell no! We will not ask you for money. We don’t even have ads on the site. This is entirely for fun and educational purposes only. Obviously, can’t turn down donations, but we won’t tell you how to get that donation to us… =)

I DON’T HAVE THE TIME TO CHECK THE FACEBOOK GROUP OR THE WEBSITE FOR UPDATES ALL THE TIME. HOW CAN I KEEP POSTED ON WHAT’S GOING ON?

There are two very simple ways of achieving this:
E-MAIL: We offer updates by email. On the right side panel of the website is a link that states Subscribe By Email. Click that, fill in your email address, and presto! You’ll now receive all new posts to this website by email.
RSS FEED: If you use a RSS reader to get news and such, we also offer a RSS feed. The address is http://feeds.feedburner.com/ExistentialQuestions/. Again, the right side panel has a link to the feed. There is also a button to click to add the feed to the reader of your choice. Go for it!

We hope you have found answers to your questions. If you didn’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to ask! At the bottom of this page is a contact form for this purpose. Be sure to leave a valid email address so we can get back to you, hopefully with a satisfying answer to your question.

——IMPORTANT——
There is only one rule: thou shalt not judge anyone else. Everyone has opinions and a right to those opinions. So do not judge anyone for their personal opinion. You have your opinion, they have theirs. Simple enough. Keep that in mind… We shall all keep the discussions clean and considerate. Please.
